Je suis Charlie

Around 10,000 people according to the police gathered Wednesday evening at the Place de Capitole in Toulouse in tribute to the victims of the attack against Charlie Hebdo.

The French are quite wonderful. When times are hard this is how they react, by standing in complete solidarity against any threat to their society, unprompted and unperturbed.

We can mock them for their constant protests and demonstrations, but what I’m seeing is that the French seem to feel confident in their ability to make their voices heard and play their part in creating the sort of society in which they wish to live. Whatever the cause of the hour, the French share open, undying support for one another and that’s amazing to witness.
